5G Huawei Foldable Phone May Debut At MWC 2019

Huawei wants to overtake Samsung as the world’s top smartphone vendor. It has already clinched the number two spot on the top five list from Apple and is well on its way to closing the gap with the Korean giant. Merely days after Samsung offered a glimpse of its foldable smartphone, reports emerge suggesting that Huawei’s 5G foldable smartphone may debut at MWC 2019.

Samsung didn’t actually show off the device itself. It merely provided a glimpse of the foldable display in a housing that obscured the device’s actual design. Previously reports have suggested that Huawei has been working on a foldable smartphone of its own as well.

A report out of Korea claims that Huawei has shown its device to high ranking officials at Korean carriers. One of the executives told ETNews that the product shown was a finished unit and not a prototype.

Details are slim about this device right now but it’s said to feature an 8 inch foldable display made by BOE, a Chinese supplier for display panels. Whether or not Huawei will be able to release the device before Samsung remains to be seen. Samsung has only said that it will properly unveil its foldable device early next year. It hasn’t confirmed exactly when it will be released. Samsung’s foldable smartphone isn’t expected to be compatible with 5G networks as well.
