Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Fan Edition Could Get Android Pie

In 2016 Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 7, but unfortunately due to battery issues, there were widespread reports of the phone exploding and catching on fire, leading to Samsung recalling all models. The company then decided to fix the issue and re-release the handset as the “Fan Edition”.

For those who decided to purchase the Fan Edition, there is some good news in terms of updates for the handset. A report from SamMobile has revealed that the phone in question was recently spotted at the WiFi Alliance’s website where it received its certification with Android Pie on board, suggesting that the phone could indeed be eligible for the update.

We know that in terms of updating to Android 9.0 Pie, Samsung has confirmed that its Galaxy S9, S9+, and Note 9 handsets will be receiving the update in January 2019, but they did not mention anything about its older handsets save for the Galaxy S8, S8+, and Note 8, so it was unclear as to what is the status regarding the Note 7 Fan Edition.

We can’t be sure if it is because the phone was released in 2017 that it is eligible for the Android 9.0 Pie update, or if Samsung plans to support its 2016 phones as well, which includes the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
