Netflix Making New Ghost In The Shell Series


Netflix has recently made a string of anime-related announcements and its latest will certainly appeal to many people. The video streaming giant has announced that it’s making a new Ghost in the Shell series. Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 will be co-directed by the director of the original series, Kenji Kamiyama with Shinji Aramaki. The two have also worked together on the Ultraman movie which is going to be released on Netflix in 2019.

For those who are unaware, Ghost in the Shell is a long-running anime franchise that started off as a manga in 1989. It follows Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg, who was employed in Public Security Section 9, a counter-cyberterrorist department. A feature film was released in 1996 and multiple TV shows and sequels have since been released.

Netflix confirmed that this new Ghost in the Shell anime series is being co-directed by Appleseed’s Shinji Aramaki and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex’s Kenji Kamiyama.

Fans of the series do have a considerable wait ahead of them. The company has confirmed that this new series, titled Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045, is not going to arrive on Netflix until 2020. No further details have been revealed at this point in time and may not be until next year at the very least.
