Galaxy Note 8 Might Get Android Pie Before Galaxy S8 Does

Samsung’s Galaxy Note handsets have traditionally received new major firmware updates after the flagship Galaxy S models from that particular year have been updated. That might not be the case for the Galaxy Note 8, though. A new roadmap shared by Samsung suggests that the Galaxy Note 8 might get the Android Pie update before the Galaxy S8 does.

Samsung has already started rolling out the stable version of the Android Pie update. The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ received it late last month. The Galaxy Note 9 is next in line and it’s believed that this handset will get the update at some point this month.

The next obvious contender would have been the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+. A new roadmap shared with users in the Samsung Members app suggests that the Galaxy Note 8 is going to receive the Android Pie update in February 2019. It also mentions that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ won’t get it before March.

The timeline will obviously vary by market as well as on whether a device is carrier locked or unlocked. For example, the Galaxy S9 has not got the update in the United States as yet, it’s possible that carriers in the country may start rolling it out in the coming weeks.
