Raspberry Pi 4 Brings Support For 4K And 4GB Of RAM

The Raspberry Pi Foundation today announced the fourth version of its tiny computer. The Raspberry Pi 4 retains the form factor that many of us have now become familiar with but gets improved specs overall. There’s a faster CPU and GPU in addition to faster Ethernet. There’s even support for 4K.

The Raspberry Pi 4 Model B computer has a 1.5GHz quadcore ARM Cortex-A72 processor which provides a 3x performance bump compared to its predecessor. It can be paired with up to 4GB of LPDDR4 SDRAM. Another improvement compared to its predecessor is the theoretical maximum transfer rate of 50 Mbps for a microSD storage card compared to 25 Mbps.

There’s full-throughput Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.0 as well as two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 ports. It even has dual monitor support with resolutions up to 4K. All earlier Raspberry Pi products are completely compatible with this newest computer.

The signature $35 price point has been retained but this is the first time that a choice is being offered for memory capacity. The one with 1GB of RAM costs $35 while the cost goes up marginally to $45 and $55 for the 2GB and 4GB RAM variants respectively.

All three of these variants are available starting today. They can be purchased online right away.
