Mini Cooper SE, The First All-Electric Model, Coming March 2020

The iconic Mini Cooper has now been electrified. A concept was shown about two years ago and it became clear at that time that the BMW Group was thinking about launching an all-electric version of this vehicle. It today unveiled the Mini Cooper SE, the first all-electric version of this vehicle, and it’s set to hit the road come March next year.

The design isn’t quite like the concept but it’s much more similar to the conventional two-door Mini styling which is not necessarily a bad thing. BMW has preserved the Mini’s iconic design elements so the all-electric model will feel familiar, at least on the surface.

A 135kW or 181HP electric motor is going to drive this car, enabling it to go from 0 to 62 miles per hour in 7.3 seconds. It will be able to hit a top speed of 93 miles per hour. It will be quick off the line with 199 foot pounds of torque with the lower center of gravity working in its favor as we well.

The range is going to be limited, though, as it only has a 32.6kWh battery. It can provide a range between 124 and 144 miles which means that the Mini Cooper SE is much more suited to driving around the city than it is to taking road trips, unless you don’t mind stopping repeatedly to charge it.

The company is yet to confirm pricing and availability details for the United States. Those in the UK can order one today for £24,400 which is just over $30,000.
