LastPass Will Be Nerfing Its Free Tier

For those of you who use password managers (if you don’t, you should consider it), LastPass is probably one of the password managers that you’ve either come across, heard, or are actually using it. The company offers users a free option for those who don’t need advanced features, and this is usually good enough.

However, it seems that LastPass has announced some changes on its blog that will essentially nerf the free version and attempts to make users sign up for the premium subscription. For those unfamiliar, the free tier allows users to use LastPass on multiple types of devices at once, like computers and smartphones and tablets.

However, the changes to the free tier means that users no longer have that option. Users will still be able to use it on unlimited devices, but they’ll be limited to one type of device. Users will have to choose if they want to use LastPass on their computers or mobile devices, and they’ll be pretty much stuck with that unless they don’t mind upgrading to the paid premium tier.

These changes will come into effect on the 16th of March 2021 so you still have some time to either migrate to a different password manager, or pay for the premium tier that will cost $2.25 a month (it will be billed annually).
