Microsoft has already confirmed that the Windows 10 powered software experience for Xbox One is going to be released this fall and this could open up a world of new possibilities for third party game developers. If Microsoft allows them they will be able to provide cross-buy and cross-play support for their games on both Xbox One and Windows 10 powered PCs. A Microsoft executive hints that developers may get their hands on this soon.

Speaking with Engadget Microsoft Xbox executive Kudo Tsunoda said that support for Windows 10-Xbox One cross-buy and cross-play is likely to be offered to third party developers soon.

Microsoft has currently limited support for first party titles only which cover games that Microsoft is either publishing or developing itself. There’s one exception though, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night gets support, but this title won’t be released before 2017.

Tsunoda said that once the company figures out how it can bring PC and Xbox gamers together with cross-play, “we’re going to put that into our platform to make it simple and easy for other developers to do as soon as possible.”

If this happens it will make gamers’ lives much easier, not only will they only pay once for a title that works across Xbox and Windows but they’ll also be able to play with other people using both platforms.
