no chromeMicrosoft Edge is the new browser that comes bundled with Windows 10. It’s a great browser if you have ever used it. It also shows how far Microsoft has come from their Internet Explorer days. However it seems that Microsoft wants you to love the Edge browser a little too much, as they have been found to actively discourage users from downloading the competition.

As you can see in the screenshot above, courtesy of VentureBeat, it seems that if you were to search for Chrome using Bing on the Edge browser, you will be greeted by the message above. Basically it tells you that Microsoft is recommending that you use the Edge browser if you are using Windows 10.

The same message will greet you if you were to try searching for Mozilla’s Firefox browser as well. Clicking the “Learn why” button will take users to the Microsoft Edge website where its virtues and features are extolled. That being said, it seems that the message only pops up once and seems to target Chrome and Firefox. Searching for Opera did not yield the same message.

It also might be limited to certain countries like the US, as searching for Chrome or Firefox in other countries did not yield the message either. In any case thankfully the message isn’t particularly invasive or annoying, but like we said the Edge browser is a pretty good browser. If you aren’t too fussy about what you use, give it a try, you might like it!
