DJI’s New Mavic Drone May Feature 360-Degree Obstacle Avoidance

DJI makes some great drones that have commercialized semi-pro drone technology. The company is now believed to be working on the successor of the Mavic Pro which may be called the Mavic 2. An image of the drone has been leaked online and the accompanying report suggests that the new drone may feature 360-degree obstacle avoidance.

The leaked image suggests that the Mavic 2 may be sleeker and more aerodynamic than its predecessor while retaining the signature Mavic Pro design elements such as the folding mechanism, shape, and color.

The report also mentions that the new Mavic 2 seems to have at least front and side obstacle avoidance cameras and sensors. It’s expected to feature the same at the bottom and the back to provide 360-degree obstacle avoidance.

Another observation suggests that the Mavic 2 may have a removable gimbal much like the GoPro Karma drone. The gimbal may just slide into the drone and will thus enable users to use the gimbal separately as well.

DJI had previously scheduled an event titled “See the Bigger Picture” on July 18th but it has since postponed the event to a later date. It’s unclear at this point in time when that event will take place and if this drone will be launched there.
