The One2OneMate StudentMate is a hybrid device, comprising of those electronic toy computers and an UMPC. It features a 7″ color touchscreen display at 800 x 480 resolution, WiFi and Ethernet connectivity, and a full size laptop keyboard. A Linux operating system runs in the background, and you get 128MB RAM that can be expanded upon via SD memory cards and USB flash drives. Each purchase comes pre-loaded with a Web browser, word processor, spreadsheet, contact manager, clock, calendar, calculator, typing tutor, and more. You’ll have to fork out $399 for this, and some might argue that at that price point there are beefier Windows-based laptops around.
Our commenters are right to point out that other devices would be a much better fit. If you are interested in low-cost computers, check out the olpc and most importantly the Asus Eee PC
