iPhone 4.0 Firmware To Offer Multitasking With Exposé-like Interface?

The lack of multitasking on the iPhone has always been a sore point for many users, and Apple has refused to officially allow multitasking for third-part applications, citing security reasons and battery life issues. Rumor is now going around that the upcoming iPhone 4.0 firmware update might include multitasking, and it’ll even get a cool mechanism for switching between apps, something along the lines of the Exposé feature in Mac OS X. Apparently you won’t be dealing with the application windows like Exposé, rather you’ll see application icons (which is still fine, as long as multitasking works). Let’s not forget that Apple currently has a form of pseudo-multitasking, in the form of Push Notifications, allowing apps to send notifications to the phone, instead of continuously polling for updates. It does do a rather good job for hiding the lack of multitasking, but let’s see what Apple comes up with in iPhone 4.0, shall we?
