Solar Powered Mototaxi Aims To Reduce Pollution

A professor at the University of San Marcos has created a solar panel fitted on a “mototaxi”, designed for the streets of Lima in Peru. These zero-emission mototaxis are able to run on pedal-power, or via a battery that is attached to the solar panels. The researcher is hoping that the company will decide to mass produce the panels so that they can retrofit mototaxis in Lima and other South American cities to reduce the problem of air pollution. Of course, the cost of manufacturing the solar panels will have to be taken into account, but it does seem like an interesting idea. The solar panels at the top of the vehicle are two 40W solar panels, and the mototaxi is powered by an electric engine, instead of the more traditional gas guzzler.
