LXE introduces rugged new Marathon field computer

Those who have run a Marathon will clearly be able to remember the searing pain in their legs that even the best preparation efforts could not relieve them from. Well, the first is the last for some, but for others, it is the start of many more marathons down the road. The very word marathon itself epitomizes a long journey of endurance, and LXE capitalizes on that with their new rugged Marathon field computer. Boasting a size smaller than a laptop but holding more processing power than a PDA, the Marathon is equipped with multiple data-capture and connectivity options to deliver new levels of usability for the mobile worker in field-force automation, route accounting, and public safety. An Intel Atom processor will run proceedings from within, where you can choose from Windows 7 or Windows XP as the operating system of choice. Apart from that, you will also get a 7” outdoor-visible touchscreen, full QWERTY keyboard, an integrated fingerprint reader which also functions as a mouse, and a high-resolution color camera. Battery life varies from 8 to 12 hours, depending on what you use it for, and it is hardy enough to bear the IP-65 rating for protection against dust and water. It will connect via Gobi WWAN radio, letting you use it with either GSM- or CDMA-based mobile carriers. If either are unavailable, just stake out the local Starbucks and you’re good to go.
