AT&T to deliver LTE in mid-2011, LTE iPhone maybe?

A bit late to the party, but at least not the last, AT&T have announced that they will be rolling out 4G LTE coverage beginning mid-2011. With Sprint currently being the only carrier to offer 4G (WiMax, not LTE) in the United States, AT&T has finally caught caught on and isn’t planning to let them monopolize the 4G wireless market. The first city to get AT&T 4G will be Dallas, Texas. And from there they will spread out and hope to cover 70-75 million by the end of 2011. Looks like the 4G business is starting to get serious.

As you probably know by now, “mid-year” is usually when a new iPhone gets released, so it won’t take much to speculate that a new LTE-powered iPhone might just appear by then. LTE might just be part of the AT&T’s solution to its clogged network. By switching new iPhone users to LTE, AT&T would make their experience that much better while the network still has a surplus capacity. For Apple, it’s an obvious phone evolution that’s an easy sell.
