Automatic Trash Can With Multi-sense

It’s not too hard to open the lid of a trash can to throw away your scraps, but why should we do that when it can be done so automatically? Simplehuman has come up with an automatic trash can, dubbed the sensor can, that has a multi-sense sensor, meaning that it can guess what you’re trying to do and determine whether to keep the lid open or to slam it shut. When the lid is closed, the sensor zone is directly above the trash can, so you won’t accidentally trigger it while walking past, but once you’ve got the bin open, the sensor zone is widened to feel if you’re still around the bin throwing the leftovers away. If you hang around for over three seconds, it’ll switch into a stay-open mode for thirty seconds. It has an auto-motor disengaging mode, so if you close the lid manually, you won’t be damaging the mechanism. It’s powered by six C-sized batteries which should be good for a year, or you can keep it hooked up to the mains. It’s not cheap though, and will set you back $225 with a 2-year warranty.
