Sony To Outsource High-end LCD TV Manufacturing To Foxconn And Wistron

Word is going around that Sony will be outsourcing the production of its high-end LCD HDTV units to Taiwanese manufacturers. If the reports are accurate, then Foxconn has been given the contract to produce Sony’s frameless sets, while Wistron will be working on the Google TV family. None of the companies mentioned have commented on these rumors yet, though. Sony is already expecting to outsource between 70 and 80 percent of its total LCD TV production in 2011 with Foxconn getting the majority of the business at 15 and 18 million units. Wistron will be producing between 7 and 8 million units for Sony. Such outsourcing of high-end models will be a first for Sony.
