Ubuntu 11.04 sees off GNOME interface with Unity

Ubuntu 11.04 will replace its GNOME interface with Unity, which is a totally new interface that sees action in Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition. GNOME might come with panels at the top and bottom of the display, but Unity will instead feature a top panel and a panel on the left side that can be utilized to launch apps as well as access already running apps in a jiffy. While Unity was designed with netbooks in mind, quite a sizeable number of netbook users have thrown brickbats at it, touting it to be sluggish in nature while requiring way too much scrolling than preferred when viewing web sites and running other apps as Unity consumes a whole bunch of horizontal pixels. Hopefully with Ubuntu 11.04, some things will be tweaked to make it look a whole lot better.
