Microsoft has some pretty lofty sales targets for its Kinect system, where it is tipped to sell at least 5 million units this fall. The good people over at iFixit has already taken their Kinect apart, and here’s the “post-mortem” of the device. Among the details found include a rather strong albeit small fan amongst a plethora of sensors, a quartet of microphones, a couple of autofocus cameras that have been specially optimized for depth detection, an IR transmitting diode, 64 MB of Hynix DDR2 SDRAM, a motor and a three-axis accelerometer amongs others. Well, now that you know the innards of the Microsoft Kinect, will it make you a better gamer? Probably not, but it does add to your geek credentials.
