Samsung NX11 mirrorless camera, launched

[CES 2011] Samsung has just told us that its NX11 mirrorless camera has launched. It is the latest interchangeable lens camera in a family that includes the NX10 and NX100. Samsung points out that the NX11 is mostly like the NX10, except that it supports i-Function, a single-operation tweaking mechanism that lets the user change a setting by rotating a ring on the lens itself, in essence , making it as simple and intuitive as zooming. Shutter speed, aperture, EV, WB, and ISO  can be selected and controlled with i-Function. If you want a visual explanation, head to Samsung’s own interactive demo.The NX11 also features small changes that should improve its usability, notably on the grip. As Always, Samsung is quick to point out that it is using an APS-C light sensor that is larger than what can be found on Micro 4/3 cameras (APS-C describes a class of lens, devices like my own Canon 50D has an APS-C sized lens).

For the NX11, Samsung has a 18-55, 20mm Pancake (very flat) and 20-50mm i-Function lenses. In that form factor segment, Samsung’s biggest competitor is probably Panasonic, and their excellent cameras like the GF1 and soon to be released GF2. The Samsung NX11 costs about $650 with a kit lens.
