Apple iPhone 5 to enter manufacturing in Q3 2011

FBR Capital, an analyst firm, has dug around and hinted at a possible launch of a new iPhone 5 from Apple – touted to enter the manufacturing process sometime in the third quarter of the year, which means it should be able to hit the markets sometime later this year at best, or early next year instead. Just what else does this magical new phone will be able to offer? Speculation says that the iPhone 5 will feature an 8-megapixel camera and a single baseband chip that will play nice on both GSM and CDMA network, and this information is said to come from industry contacts.

8-megapixels – this is clearly a departure from the iPhone 4’s 5-megapixel camera, and to see a single baseband communications chip would mean there won’t be a headache going on like today, where GSM models rely on baseband chips from Intel’s Infineon wireless division, while Qualcomm chips will see action in CDMA models.

Apple has yet to announce the N94 (which many believe to be its codename) to the masses yet, and will most probably maintain its traditional stiff upper lip concerning future devices. Out of the 20 million or so iPhones that are produced in Q3 2011, FBR thinks that around 8 million of those will be iPhone 5 models. What do you think? The Apple rumors never stop…
