iOS Maps app coming your way?

Apple is looking for someone to inject improvements to the Maps app in the iOS platform, at least that is what can be garnered according to a new job listing. The candidate who manages to charm the person in power at Cupertino will be known as an “iOS Maps Application Developer,” where he/she will be working in or around the vicinity of the company’s headquarters in Cupertino. Applicants are required to have “real-world experience developing sophisticated user interfaces”, and it is a given that they will cooperate with the Apple human interface team to “add new and innovative features.”

Apple did put up a bunch of mapping-related job postings recently, but so far none of them have been that explicit in mentioning that it will be targeting an enhanced version of the Maps app. The company does seem to be serious in making major changes for iOS 5, considering the app has evolved on a much slower scale than expected since the iPhone was first released four years ago. Among them is Google’s Maps Navigation, which has long been promised to arrive on the iOS platform but sadly, remains an Android exclusive until today.

There is a chance that Apple might want to do away with their dependence on Google Maps, but such speculation would need more concrete evidence before it becomes official.
