Gingerbread updates for Motorola DROID devices held back?

If you happen to be a Verizon Wireless subscriber who owns one of the more recent handsets from the Motorola DROID family, here’s some news from you. Yes, it might be a heart-breaker, but as we all know, the truth can hurt at times. It seems that Verizon has yet to roll out the Android 2.3 Gingerbread update (that means across the board save for the DROID X) for your smartphone, leaving you stuck with Android 2.2 Froyo – at least for a little while more.

This comes about as Droid-Life reports that Verizon has rejected all builds of Android 2.3 Gingerbread from Motorola simply because the list of bugs that are present in the version which accompanied the DROID X. No idea on when the update will be released, but insider sources tout that Motorola engineers are working hard to ensure that the whole situation can be salvaged – sooner rather than later, of course.

While Motorola has the technical high ground of never laying claim to a particular release date, as they gave a general “before Q3 is over” timeframe, it is encouraging to see that they do take their customers seriously. DROID 2, DROID 2 Global, DROID X2 and DROID Pro owners would do well to check back with us as we await good news from Verizon and Motorola.
