Rumor: Xbox Live might get ‘Diamond’ TV subscription service

Gamers might have it on good faith that Microsoft’s Xbox Live is an online gaming platform, but that’s not how the top brass see it. In fact, there’s lots of money being made on Xbox Live with services such as Hulu Plus and Netflix. TV on Xbox 360 is big.

So big in fact that there’s a rumor going around that Microsoft is preparing to launch a TV service on Xbox Live called “Diamond.” That sounds more like a “package” to us, as currently there is a Silver and Gold Xbox Live membership. Silver is free and Gold requires a payment for extra features. The service will reportedly provide “pseudo-cable” shows, which may or may not be streamed live as well as music and video discovery channels.

It’s unknown at this time whether or not Microsoft plans to unveil this service at E3 next week as it’s supposedly in the last-minute talks with content providers. Should it surface, Diamond should launch in the U.S. first.
