LEGO robot does iPad app testing on your behalf

Robots are certainly nifty to have around – how many times did droids save the derrières of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia in the space opera Star Wars? I suppose you can watch the complete saga to keep count, but what this LEGO robot does here is to test iPad apps on your behalf, opening up a window of opportunity for you to take a break from all your hard work and get a much needed rest.

Developers at Pheromone Lab have been hard at work to deliver a photography iPad app for a client, and the client requested to load test the app by snapping 10,000 photos. Pressing such a shutter button so many times is no fun even if you’re the most hardcore iPad lover, so why not enlist the help of a non-living entity who knows no fatigue or have emotions that run foul?

This clever implementation of a LEGO Mindstorms kit and a cardboard box has resulted in an automated iPad photographer, using an iPad stylus to press the shutter button. Another thing is proven in this set up – the LEGO Mindstorms kit is good for at least 10,000 cycles of the same action!
