There is a new, non-mandatory PS3 firmware update that bumps up the version number to 3.73 that is available, awaiting your download. Basically, nothing major was included but it is still recommended that you make that update since Sony claims “stability during use of certain PS3 format software has been improved.”

Assuming your PS3 system software version is 3.72 (or later), there is no need to go ahead with this update. Anyone taken the jump already, and did you notice any improvements or change to your console that are worth writing home about? Hopefully it will work as the developers intended it to, without causing any more heartache, downtime or crashes in the process. You can check out the update page here. Obviously the official Twitter account of the PS3 is faster than the website, as the image pulled from the update page still shows off “3.72” as the version number. I guess they only leave the major “must have” update version numbers there, minor ones like today’s release do not warrant such attention from the masses, no?
