Walmart and T-Mobile introduce data-centric prepaid plan

Walmart and T-Mobile have announced that it will be launching a new prepaid service plan that will cater to folks who rarely make normal calls and rely on their smartphone’s data capabilities instead. The plan will be a non-contract, $30/month for unlimited web and text on T-Mobile’s “4G” (HSPA+) network. However, even though the data is unlimited, expect to be throttled once you exceed the monthly 5GB cap (which isn’t too bad considering most people don’t even hit 2GB a month).

In this day and age, people are using less and less of their minutes, especially with the availability of data calling, so it’s won’t be too much of a surprise if this plan becomes a hit. The unlimited web/texting plan will be sold exclusively in-store at Walmart, on Walmart’s website and at T-Mobile’s website. It is expected to launch on October 16th, which is just a few weeks away. Anybody plan to convert to this plan when it launches?
