PSN Vita games to be 40% cheaper than retail?

PlayStation VitaWhile everybody has been pretty upset over the high price of Sony’s proprietary memory cards for the PlayStation Vita, there might be a silver lining to this cloud. According to the folks over at thriftynerd.com who were at a PlayStation Vita event, Vita PSN games would be around 40% cheaper than their retail counterparts. Apparently the discount is due to the lack of hardware and packaging for PSN downloaded games.

In addition to news about the PSN discounts, it’s been reported that the prices of games would be capped at $39.99 retail. This means $23 if you downloaded it – that’s quite a lot of money saved if you ask me. Sounds like great news for folks who are going to buy all their games digitally – but take note that this news hasn’t been officially announced by Sony so it might not be true. But for the sake of heavy gamers who are going to pick up the Vita, let’s hope so. What do you think about the 40% discount for digital games – will it make you choose buying digital over retail?
