Samsung Australia and Blockbuster sign major deal

Samsung has apparently inked a spanking new deal with Blockbuster which will allow the company to offer consumers thousands of movies from the latter’s catalogue onto the Galaxy range of smartphones and tablets, in addition to Samsung’s very own Blu-ray players as well as connected Smart TVs. Smarthouse claims that this service will arrive in Australia, the US as well as the continent of Europe in 2012, where American and European customers should receive this unique streaming service sometime in the first half of 2012 onwards. Just in case you didn’t know, Blockbuster is huge Down Under, being the biggest provider of rental movies in that part of the world, although their business Stateside is sad to say the least, with Internet-based Netflix and rental kiosk company Redbox spearheading the challenge in this market.

It is rather strange to see that in one of Blockbuster’s most supportive markets, Australian customers are required to wait until September to enjoy the fruits of this deal on their Samsung devices. What gives?
