Apple wins patents for iTunes Store, Time Machine, iPad Smart Cover and more

According to Patently Apple, the Cupertino tech giant that is Apple has just won a new set of patents that will define its direction in the future years to come. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted the release of twenty-five new patents for Apple. The agency declared that the aforementioned patents are mostly utility-based patents for such things like connectors, security, networking and more.

But perhaps one of the most significant patents that Apple has in possession now is a second patent for the iTunes Store including its rental system, first filed to the USPTO in 2008. The patent includes one data store for storing rental content and a content server for transferring content to one device upon request. Another victory for Apple is the fifth patent for Time Machine, which was filed in 2007 for their OS X-based backup software.

Five design patents were also issued to Apple. One patent is for an alleged Apple Store Display Structure (see Patently Apple) which looks like a demonstration table and the second patent design was granted to the iPad Smart Cover. A third patent design was given to the iMac and the iOS-based Newsstand icon was awarded the fourth. Apple also received an additional design patent for a power adaptor.
