Apple can add Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and Samsung can add the iPhone 5, says judge

The Apple versus Samsung battle is far from being over. Last week, we reported that Apple is planning to include the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet and Android Jelly Bean to its almost-endless patent lawsuit. Samsung, on the other hand, is going after the iPhone 5 because the South Korean behemoth thinks that the device has infringed its 3G standard patents as well as specific feature patents. Well, today, both companies are getting what they want because U.S. Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal has approved the requests.

“Samsung can add the iPhone 5 to its patent-infringement claims against Apple. Apple can also add infringement claims against the Samsung Galaxy Note, the U.S. version of the Galaxy S III and the Jelly Bean operating system,” Grewal ruled. However, the federal judge pointed out that the complaint against Google’s Android Jelly Bean OS is only applicable to Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus. The second proceeding is scheduled next year. Court filings reveal that a total number of 19 devices from Samsung and Apple’s iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch are being sought by both companies to be included in the lawsuit.
