iPhone 5 Weekend Sales In China Passes Two Million Mark

We reported that the iPhone 5’s debut in China was rather slow earlier in the week, and now the official numbers from Apple has trickled out. Basically, Apple sold more than 2 million of its new iPhone 5 in China, taking just three days to do so. With the iPhone 5 being available in over 100 countries by the end of December, which means that the iPhone 5 is the fastest iPhone rollout to date.

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple said, “Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China. China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products.” Of course China is a very important market to Apple – it is an important market to just about everyone, being the world’s second largest economy and the most populous country around the world.

Just how much more mileage do you think that the iPhone 5 will have in China in the weeks and months to come? Do you think that the 2 million mark is more of enthusiastic folks before reality sets in and they look at the iPhone 5 only to go, “Uhhh, okay.” [Press Release]
