Back in my day, video game consoles were used to play video games on and nothing else. But nowadays, video game consoles are used for way more than just playing games as we can watch movies, television shows, listen to music and even sing karaoke all from the comfort of our game console. I can’t go on my Xbox 360 or PS3 and not see someone on my buddy list watching Netflix, Hulu or HBO GO.

To continue the trend of adding additional content providers to its stable to dedicated applications, Sony is announcing EPIX will be bringing its library of over 3,000 new releases and other original programming including sports, classic feature films and comedy specials to PS3 and PS Vita U.S. owners this year.

The EPIX app will be completely free to download via PSN, but will require a subscription to the service in order to use it. The PS3 EPIX application will be available Q1 2013 while the PS Vita EPIX application will follow with a release this spring. No word if or when the EPIX PSN application would be available to users outside of the U.S.
