A Camera-less Blackberry Q10 Is Possible, But It’s Up To Carrier Demand

blackberry-q10-preview-06Smartphones these days all come with a camera. In fact it is more or less expected, with some companies such as Nokia touting their cameras as being the main selling point. However while it is more or less expected that phones come with cameras these days, there are some institutions where cameras are not allowed in, such as places where sensitive materials are being kept, like R&D facilities, the military and so on.

While some military organizations, such as the one in Singapore, used to stick a sticker over the camera on phones, a camera-less phone would be a lot easier to deal with and considering that Blackberry has in the past offered camera-less phones, some are wondering if the Canadian company will do the same for Blackberry 10 devices.

In a statement issued (via CNET), Blackberry Singapore’s director, Charles Dufourcq stated that a camera-less Blackberry Q10 would be technically possible, and that while it is not a difficult task to remove the camera, manufacturing camera-less Q10s would require a new manufacturing line. However, Dufourcq also stated that it really is up to carrier demand for a camera-less Q10, although there are no plans to do so at the moment.
