Microsoft Points Converted To Local Currency Will Expire

During Microsoft’s E3 presentation, the company announced it would be doing away with its Microsoft Points system in favor of using actual currency. The change has resulted in many Microsoft Points users wondering what will happen to their points after Microsoft initiates the change, and we now know what’ll happen.

Microsoft plans for the conversion to occur this fall with your current Microsoft Points converting into equal or greater amounts of your region’s currency, which means you shouldn’t lose any of value for your points after the change. If you have Microsoft Point cards, you’ll want to redeem them soon as they’ll be “redeemable on your console and on Xbox.com throughout 2014 and for a limited time thereafter but will be discontinued after the launch of Xbox Gift Cards this fall.”

So far, so good, right? Well – this is where things get a bit sketchy. You see, Microsoft is putting an expiration date on points it converted into your region’s currency as you’ll have one year to spend points that have been converted over from the moment of conversion. We’re sure you can think of something to spend your converted Microsoft Points on within a year, but being forced to do so is something we’re sure many Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners won’t be too fond of.
