We reported last week that HTC Desire 500 was going to be launched today in Taiwan. We’ve seen quite a few rumors about this device circulating online, it was initially not known if this device will grace markets other than Asia. HTC has formally announced the Desire 500 smartphone today, it has specifically been focused towards young users.

The HTC Desire 500 is a decent, mid-range Android smartphone. It has a 4.3 inch WVGA display with Android Jelly Bean and Sense 5 UI slapped on top of it. HTC BlinkFeed is present as well. Underneath the hood there’s a 1.2GHz quadcore Snapdragon 200 processor with a respectable 1GB of RAM. The device only has 4GB internal memory, but expansion is possible through microSD cards. It also has support for HSDPA, NFC and Beats Audio. On the back there’s an eight megapixel BSI camera with flash and a 1.6 megapixel front facing camera. The juice for all of this is provided by a 1,800 mAh battery. HTC starts selling the device from August 1 in Taiwan for about US$399. They’ve not yet said if the device will be made available in other markets, particularly in the West. Though its likely that Desire 500 will be released in more Asian markets.
