Voice Plus Merged With CyanogenMod

Its no secret that Google Voice users often complain that the app isn’t as good as it should be. The service has a huge userbase, some even use it as their primarily phone number on a daily basis. By default, it doesn’t allow sending of SMS messages through third party apps. There is a solution for users with rooted devices, one that Koush Dutta of CyanogenMod showed off earlier this month. The feature, which initially required a manual setup, allowed Google Voice users to send and receive text messages through Voice with third party apps. This feature has now been merged with CyanogenMod’s codebase and will be present in all future nightly builds released from July 22nd.

Called Voice+, it enables all apps to send and receive SMS through Google Voice. Users must have the official Voice app installed on their devices for this to work, and obviously it should be signed in to a working account. To activate the feature, all users have to do is launch the Voice+ app and pick a Google Voice account through which they want to route their messages. Once that is selected, any messaging app can be used to send and receive text messages through Voice. [Image via AndroidPolice]
