VLC For Windows 8 Could Be Released On 10th March

vlc_win8VLC has long been available for the Windows platform, although the developers have been hard at work trying to create a version fully optimized for Windows 8. Last we heard, it was suggested that the app would be close to being released, but that was back in December 2013.

The good news is that now according to a recent tweet by VLC, it seems that the app is ready and could be launched on the Windows Store as soon as this Monday! This was revealed in a response to a question asking if VLC was ready to launch the app, to which the company replied in the affirmative.

The app has been in development for a very long time. In fact the Kickstarter campaign to create the app was launched towards the end of 2012, so we guess patient fans have been waiting for a little more than a year for the app to finally arrive in the Windows Store.

Unfortunately it seems that while the app will finally be released for Windows 8, there will be a couple of features missing from the app that Windows 7 users might be used to. This is according to WindowsblogItalia who revealed that one of the missing features would be subtitles.

What this means is that if you wanted to watch a movie with subtitles, the movie better have its subtitles hardcoded or you’d be out of luck. We expect that the folks at VLC will be working quickly to get the app up to speed with what users have come to expect over the years, but this is one of the limitations you should take note of if you’re planning on downloading the app come Monday, 10th of March.
