At Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona BlackBerry announced the first smartphone that it has built in collaboration with Foxconn. The BlackBerry Z3 is an entry-level smartphone destined primarily for emerging markets. Set to be launched, and presumably shipped as well on May 13th, BlackBerry Z3 pre-orders are now being accepted by carriers and retailers in Indonesia.

A limited edition “Jakarta” Z3 will also be offered for a short time. There isn’t any major difference in the standard and Jakarta editions save for the fact that the latter has the Indonesian capital’s name engraved on the back. Its there to commemorate the launch of the very first BlackBerry designed and developed specifically for the Indonesian market.

However the BlackBerry Z3 will also make its way to other emerging markets after the first stint there. The company has also hinted at the possibility of an LTE enabled variant being launched in the West. As expected the BlackBerry Z3 is being sold for under $200. This would help the company counter the influx of low cost Android devices in Indonesia as well as other emerging markets.

BlackBerry Z3 has a 5 inch 540×940 pixel resolution display, a 1.2GHz dualcore Snapdragon 200 processor with 1.5GB RAM. It also has a 5 megapixel rear and 1.1 megapixel front camera. The smartphone offers the full BlackBerry 10 OS experience and does come with a 2,500mAh battery.
