HTC doesn’t measure the quality of its flagship’s camera in conventional terms. Last year original HTC One came with an Ultrapixel camera and its successor stuck to this as well. Though this time around the company has made a major improvement. HTC One M8 has dual cameras which are undoubtedly touted as one of the core selling points of this device. The company isn’t restricting access to the two cameras, as promised, it has released the Dual Lens SDK Preview for HTC One M8’s Duo Camera.

This means that developers will now be able to create software that can take advantage of the M8’s dual cameras. The SDK preview includes Dual Lens API, JavaDoc API documents and sample projects. Developers interested in tinkering with this will first need to create an account at the HTCDev website before they can download the SDK preview.

Its good that HTC is letting developers have a crack at it. Though it’s unclear just how many developers will divert their time and resources into developing software that is only good with one device. Any Duo Camera compatible apps they create will only be good for the HTC One M8, so they might not have that much of an incentive to go crazy with the SDK.
