Gear Solo Is Samsung’s 3G Capable Smartwatch [Rumor]

The Samsung Galaxy Gear

The Samsung Galaxy Gear

Samsung is serious about wearable gadgets. The company launched Galaxy Gear last year, and apparently when it didn’t perform too spectacularly, it followed up with two more smartwatches released merely six months after the first one. The new smartwatches shun Android for Tizen, and really are more improved and refined than their predecessor. Apparently Samsung still has another similar product up its sleeve that it may launch later this year. We have heard many rumors about a 3G connected smartwatch, word on the street is that it may be called the Gear Solo.

Rumor has it that Samsung has already filed a patent for this moniker with the Korean Intellectual Property Office. Moreover the Korean Herald, which has been right about Samsung rumors on many occasions, claims that this device will be equipped with a USIM module. Obviously the salient feature of this smartwatch would be the ability to make calls without needing to be tethered to a smartphone.

The report also cites a SK Telecom representative who claims that the Gear Solo might be launched in other markets around the world as well, initially its believed to be launched only in South Korea with SK Telecom.

Not much is known about the Gear Solo at this time, its specifications are shrouded in a cloud of mystery. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information. Would you consider owning a smartwatch if it could eliminate the need to whip out your phone for quick calls?
