New BBM Update With Stickers And More Released

A few weeks back BlackBerry detailed the major BlackBerry Messenger update that it was working on. Since the company opened it up to other platforms last year, its user base has grown to over 85 million active users, while total registered users are over 110 million. BlackBerry now looks to cash in on this growth and it continues to add new features to improve the BBM experience. Today BBM 2.1 has been released. It brings BBM Shop which at first is going to include sticker packs. Other features include group photo sharing and the ability to send larger files.

Previously in chats users could only send files weighing up to 10MB. With the new BBM update, this limit has been raised to 16MB, regardless of whether you’re using the cross-platform messaging service on BlackBerry 10, Android or iPhone. Thus users will be able to send higher quality photos, bigger attachments and longer videos to their contacts.

BBM Shop, which resides inside the BBM app itself, contains sticker packs which can be downloaded. Each pack contains 20-25 different stickers are revolve around a theme or a character. Popular brands such as Shaun the Sheep and WWE have created their very own packs. Initially sticker packs will be available for free, then they’ll be sold for $1.99 or an approximate equivalent amount in local currency which will be billed through the device’s app store.

The new BBM update for BlackBerry, Android and iPhone is going to roll out later today.
