A couple of years ago, PayPal launched the ability for users of BBM to send money through the messenger using PayPal’s platform. However it looks like that feature has come to an end. In an announcement by PayPal, they have discontinued the service which actually came into effect on the 6th of February, 2018.

So if you are using BBM and are wondering why you can no longer use PayPal to send money, we guess now you know why. According to PayPal’s statement, “PayPal is always evolving our customer experiences to ensure we are delivering to you the best products and solutions. As a result of our research, we’ve decided to discontinue the ability to send money with PayPal using Blackberry Messenger (BBM), starting February 6, 2018.”

The company does not dive into specifics as to why they might have discontinued the service, but perhaps given that BBM isn’t quite used as much these days compared to back in the day is a possibility (just speculation on our part). That being said, sending money through messenger services isn’t new.

Companies such as Apple have even launched their own services such as Apple Pay Cash. WhatsApp has also been reported as having their own P2P payments service in the works that could be launching as soon as next month.
