The much hyped OnePlus One smartphone was finally unveiled last week. It has been developed by a company called OnePlus, which is the new kid on the block. Regardless of all the controversy surrounding its ownership the company is well on its way to ship OnePlus One to the public. In an update on its official forums OnePlus has revealed that it expects general availability of its first smartphone this June.

What this means is that hopefully by June people would be able to pick this device up without requiring an invite. Initially the phone will only be offered to invite holders. Its just one of the many marketing tactics OnePlus has used to create hype for its smartphone, but according to the roadmap provided, first batch of invite holders will receive their units mid to late-May.

That is not the only marketing tactic OnePlus is running. It already has 100 units ready for people who smash their existing phones and capture that on video. Some impatient folks have already smashed their phones without reading conditions attached to this promotion, so do read up on them if you’re willing to take part in the theatrics.

OnePlus says that consumer feedback tells it that there’s more demand for the 64GB Sandstone Black model as opposed to the 16GB Silk White. So come early June the larger batch of the 64GB variant will be released. OnePlus One, with its 5.5-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz quadcore processor and 13 megapixel rear camera comes at an impressive price of $299 unlocked and off contract.
