Samsung Galaxy S5 Google Play Edition Sort Of Gets Listed In Play Store

galaxy s5 gpeOne of the benefits of owning a Nexus device is not only do you get the stock Android experience, but you also get updates before everyone else. Of course there are some features in Nexus devices or maybe even the design of the phone that not everyone might appreciate, so that’s where Google Play Edition handsets come into the picture.

In the past we have seen Samsung launch the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, and recently we’ve seen the HTC One M8 get the Google Play Edition treatment as well, so it’s not really a stretch of the imagination to think that the Galaxy S5 could get a Google Play Edition as well, right? Well thanks to a listing on Google Play, it seems that such a device could be on its way.

According to a listing on the Google Play Store, a listing for the Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition was spotted, which is normal, except for the fact that the thumbnail used in the listing is that of the Galaxy S5. There are a couple of possibilities here: the first is that Google could have gotten the thumbnails mixed up, and second is that it is possible that the Galaxy S4 is a typo for the Galaxy S5.

The former possibility would be a bit of a bummer, but the latter could be good news for smartphone owners who are looking for a stock Android experience but with the Galaxy S5 hardware. Of course you could flash stock Android onto a Galaxy S5, although the process is not that easy, at least not for the newbie or those using Android for the first time.

The handset itself is not available for purchase, unfortunately, which seems to suggest that perhaps Google might have released the listing ahead of time. No word on when Google will make the official announcement, but hopefully with it being listed on Google Play, we won’t have to wait too long. So, anyone planning on getting their hands on the device if and when it is released?
