While it has yet to be officially confirmed, it has been speculated that the Gear Solo (or Gear 2 Solo) will be a smartwatch from Samsung that will support a SIM card. This is opposed to Samsung’s current-gen of smartwatches that will require it to be paired with a smartphone in order to use some of its functions.
However with a SIM card in the watch itself, it will allow users to make phone calls and presumably other activities, like internet connectivity, for example. There’s no word on when Samsung will officially announce the Gear Solo/Gear 2 Solo, but given that it made an appearance on Zauba, there is a good chance that we could be getting close to an announcement.
In the meantime what do you guys think? Is a smartwatch that supports SIM cards something you might be interested in? On one hand it does free up some reliance on smartphones, but at the same time it’s another plan that users will have to end up paying for.
