T-Mobile Will Proactively Notify Customers Who Were Charged For Premium SMS

tmo_signWe’re not sure if you guys remember, but back in 2013 the major carriers like AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile announced they would be taking a stronger stance against the likes of premium SMS charges, save for the ones that are used for donations. Back then T-Mobile announced that they would not be charging customers for premium SMS save for the ones used by charities and political donations.

However come 2014, T-Mobile announced that they would be taking one step further by being proactive in their fight against premium SMS charges. Instead of merely not billing customers for those charges, the carrier announced that they will begin to notify customers of unauthorized premium SMS to their accounts, thus informing customers that they are eligible for a refund.

Prior to this, customers were allowed to ask for a refund, but by proactively notifying customers, those who weren’t aware of this new policy can now take advantage of it by getting refunded. According to T-Mobile’s CMO, Mike Sievert, “If you’ve been charged for a third-party service you didn’t sign up for, it should be easy to get a refund. If customers were charged for services they didn’t want, we’ll make it right. That’s being the Un-carrier.”

T-Mobile will be kicking off this program starting from July and will run it until September. The carrier will also be launching a special website where customers will be able to request for premium SMS refunds as well.
