Apps For BlackBerry Passport Appear To Scale Just Fine

passport-1mobileIt is safe to say that most apps have been designed for rectangular smartphone displays in mind, which is why we have to admit that we are curious as to how the BlackBerry Passport’s display will play out. Given that it has a 1:1 aspect ratio, does this mean that we can expect letterboxing for apps, or will apps end up being stretched out?

Well thanks to a couple of photos of apps running on the BlackBerry Passport, it shows that apps are able to scale itself perfectly and automatically to the phone’s 1:1 aspect ratio, meaning that there is no letterboxing and no stretching, which is good news for would-be BlackBerry Passport owners.

It should be noted that these are Android apps not native BlackBerry 10 apps, so we’re not sure how BlackBerry 10 apps will run. It is also unclear if the automatic scaling will apply to every app out there, or if developers will need to enable it within their apps before it works, but so far so good!

The BlackBerry Passport is expected to be released later this year, although pricing remains unknown. So far BlackBerry has done a good job at promoting the handset’s key features, such as its gesture-based keyboard and interesting 1:1 display. In the meantime are any of you guys looking forward to the handset?
