CyanogenMod 12 Based On Android L Not Coming Soon

Soon after Google announced Android L it released the software’s developer preview. It will give developers ample time to get their apps ready until Google decides to ship the software to end users. One might have thought that beta builds of CyanogenMod 12 would have started to crop up following the preview’s release but the team behind it says that they’re not jumping on Android L anytime soon. For now the only stable builds will be of CyanogenMod 11 which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat.

For those who don’t know the folks at Cyanogen develop some of the most popular custom ROMs for Android devices. They’re used by millions of people around the world who want an Android experience other than the one that came pre-installed on their devices.

In a post on its official blog the CyanogenMod team says that even though an early release is a new step for Google the software is far from finished. This means that the code might change before the final release. If the team spends two weeks now on integrating it in CyanogenMod 12 only to find that the code changes prior to public release then all their efforts would be wasted.

Therefore the team is going to wait until the final release when the code is done and dusted. Once Google stabilizes the development the team will jump on the code and set about creating CM12 ROMs. It does say that it won’t sit idle during this time.

The team will cost out the level of effort for each CyanogenMod feature and will also identify gaps in Android L and find possible solutions for them, in the end it would make the CM12 experience even better.
