One of the leading payment services in the world today released an official application for the Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch. This Tizen OS powered wearable device was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year. PayPal app was one of the few that were shown at launch though it has taken its sweet time to become available for the public. Samsung Gear 2 owners can now download and install the official PayPal app on their smartwatches for free.

The app aims to make it easier for users to manage their payments and recent transactions without having to fish out the smartphone from their pocket. Even though screen real estate on the smartwatch is limited it is good enough to view recent PayPal transactions straight on the wrist.

PayPal app for the Samsung Gear 2 will also let users view their balance, receive payment notifications as well as view and save offers to their wallet. The app also offers the option to check-in and pay at a local store, a very useful feature that makes paying at such stores totally effortless.

The release carries version 1.40 which implies that a lot of internal testing has taken place prior to the app being released for the public. It is being rolled out by country and carrier so it may take a while before the PayPal app makes it way to your region.
